Dappy is a first of its kind open source web browser and name system. It is a no-DNS system that has been built with a decentralized and zero-trust approach from the start. Dappy is getting ready for the launch of its mainnet, in cooperation with the blockchain platform it is being built onto rchain.coop.
When is the main name system live ?
Right now two dappy networks are deployed, one on the RChain mainnet (betanetwork), the other on the RChain testnet (deltanetwork). Neither of them is the main name system, meaning that business and people can’t buy a real name right now. This is also why names are that cheap.

The dappy main name system will probably be called the d network, d standing at the same time for definitive and dappy. It will be the default one with node addresses hardcoded in the browser. You we be able to refer to your dappy name with the d/hey shortcut, some complete addresses will be dappy://d/hey, dappy://d/amazun.
The d network will probably propose names for a price that will be maintained around $40, all the purchases will have to be done with REV, the native currency of RChain, there is not dappy token. Such a price has been defined to prevent some early insiders to purchase a lot of cheap names.
Is the dappy network built ? How many members are there ?
Great question, the dappy network is the main reason why dappy will be more secure than the DNS. Multiple agents will be co-responsible of the name system, the browser will be able to query multiple agents, instead of unique agents like in the DNS (registrar, certificate authority).
The dappy network is not built right now, all networks are one node networks (centralized). The strategy rather is to identify the first usecases, find companies willing to try dappy out, finetune the browser as well as possible, and then expand the network.
Any date for the launch of d network ?
RChain mainnet is still being improved, it will undergo serious operations around april 2021 and may 2021. Therefore the d network can’t be deployed yet, we have to wait for the underlying blockchain platform to be stable, and also decentralized (right now the coop is still managing all the nodes).
Everything is almost ready on the dappy side, may or june 2021 may be a good estimation.
What’s the state of the developments ? Is dappy browser ready ?
Dappy browser is ready, it went through 15 releases since 2019, including a lot of breaking changes in the protocol. Meaning that right now dapps deployed in 0.3.0 or 0.3.4 might not still work in 0.3.7. We may again improve the browser and trigger breaking changes, this is the point of not having given the production ready signal.
The last release was a great security upgrade, from electron 9 to electron 11, removal of the use of remote module. Dapps like tipboard, hexagons, and personal page are available and ready to be deployed and tested (on betanetwork and deltanetwork). Check to see the advancement github.com/dappy
Lots of work was also put in the rchain-token smart contract. It serves as a unified protocol for the dappy name system, tokens creation and trading (in dapps tipboard and hexagons for example), as well as files namagement for a company or person who needs to distribute/expose resources to the internet through dappy+rchain (amazun.catpicture, amazun.dog, amazun.stylesheet).
